With s50 Tire Spin, how can I???

    Hey guys,

Question, I changed my diff ratio from 4.10 to 3.46. But I still get lots of tire spin on 1st and 2nd gears with my s50 motor. I also have a lightened flywheel.

I plan to go 3.25, would it give me better results, and faster accelaration too?

I am measuring via G-Tech Pro and my launches have been difficult because of the power:)

    Thanks

What tranny do you have? I am going to use a 3 25 lsd with my s50 and zf, i hear its a good combo. Are you running nice tires?

You'll get slower accelleration and higher top speed (if you can even max out the final gear).

Get used to the tire spin, you're running a decent amount of power in a little car unless you want to drive slicks around on the street...

My only suggestion is run as fat of a tire as you can get back there in a good tire. Personally, i'd buy BFGoodwich G-force tires, the best tires i've driven on for the price.

I have new Michelin Pilots SSX arriving Friday, 235 35 18's instead of the 225's I have. My tranny is also from an e36M3.

        Thanks

          what's a pilot ssx?
if you really want to minimize wheelspin, your best bet is a sticky 245 tire. all season tires are not going to give you that.

Arent the diffs in the e36 m3's 3.15 or something close to that? 3.46 shouldnt be to bad with some stickys but like i said 3.25 is the most popular final drive with this setup. Being able to grip with a 3.46 or higher would be nice.

Most of your problem is the 18s with their tiny sidewalls. Run a 15" or 16" with some meaty tires and you'll have a lot more traction. And you'll drop a lot of unsprung weight, too, which will help your acceleration and handling.

A 3.46 should be a great setup with that transmission.

I run a 3.46 and even with my 205/55/15 Falken Azenis I get almost no wheel spin once I'm in second gear. It partially depends on how I release the clutch but I can get the spinning tires to go away if I want. 1st will always be a problem with that gear ratio and trans, the gear is just too short. All that power and a short little gear is going to force spinning almost everytime.

You must get the balance down properly, try softening up your rear suspension a little too, that will eat up some of the energy of the drivetrain and might reduce some tire spin. I softened my Koni's a few clicks and my tires have much better traction now.

                  Yep. 95 m3 has a 3.15 diff.

                    HA! I guess you've never been in a S50 powered e30. I'll bang the r3vlimiter in 5th all day with a 3.25.

When it gets dry, Im sure I could bang 5th with my 3.25/ZF M52 combo. 4th is at like 107 ish with a AA chip.

With my 225 es100's traction is only a problem in 1st and hard shifts into 2nd.

I want a ride in a S50 e30. My Turbo e30...R3Vs! through the gears. I have a 3.73 LSD in it, but with the getrag 260. I have no traction in 1st and very little in 2nd. I can roll into it at about 30 mph in 2nd and still break my 225/45 r16 RS2s loose at about 4500 rpms at peak torque.

Id rather ride in your turbo e30. If your at the picnic or the next meet, we could swap rides. Im really close to a stock s50 powere level. And Im alot lighter then most e30s.
