I mounted a different rear shifter carrier [aluminum rod] mount that i had from buying the z3 short shifter stuff from a shift linkage rebuild tech article on bmwe30.net ages ago. I just drilled two holes and mounted the shifter carrier dead center in the tunnel I think the part number is 25 11 1 220 832 or 25 11 1 463 397 or 25 11 1 220 707, I then used the z3 shifter for a nice short shift
