I want to use a SPAL...

Can't find any good info on this topic. I'm planning on using an electric fan (most likely SPAL) and was wondering how others have mounted theirs? Pusher or puller?

I have an E36 radiator, so I'm not sure what that does for fitment. I think I have heard someone tried using a slimline SPAL puller fan and couldn't make it fit.

    Any suggestions?

Hey are you going to be using a/c? I have mine mounted where the condenser would be.

No help? What are people doing for cooling normally?

I'm using the stock pusher wired to turn on high with a lower radiator switch. This is in addition to a lower temperature thermostat.

I'm looking to get an eta fan clutch since it is supposedly smaller. I'll post once I get it fitted, if it fits.

You don't have to have a fan that covers a huge percentage of the radiator necessarily. My dad's 6 has a 12" puller mounted off center and it keeps the car cool in all but the hottest conditions. If you find a low profile puller I'd stick it anywhere it will fit, even if it's off center.

I bought the most low profile SPAL I could find: 2.05" deep at the most. Still too wide.

I just talked with a guy here in Phoenix and he said he just keeps the A/C condensor fan on and has no problems over heating. I'm guessing that's with the diff. thermo as well.

I think I might just go this route. With some water wetter and 80/20 mix I should be fine.

I don't have an M50, but I did ditch the clutch fan. I replaced the heavy, loud and inneficent stock A/C fan with a 16" flexalite 2100cfm pusher fan. it works great and it's very quiet, I can barely tell when it's on. I'm also using the E36 M42 coolant temp switch, and I have it wired so it only runs at high speed.

How did you mount the flexalite?

The eta clutch fan did not fit. I would have had to cut up the top of the radiator to get it to happen.

But... having my radiator out gave me the chance to mess with the SPAL fan. It fit tight once you offset it all the way against the driver's side of the radiator.
