    Bad dyno day

    Results: 191 hp and about the same in torque
    Air/Fuel was off
    I'm still waiting for the dyno shop to send me the printout via email.

    Setup:
    1989 325is with S52 OBD I swap
    M50 manifold
    325i 413 red label computer (no ews)

    Dynoed in 4th gear up to 6500 rpm

    The horsepower figure is much lower than I expected even for a stock e36 m3 engine. I'm confident the engine is an S52 given the printed 3 2 on the block below the knock sensors.

    I suspect the reason I am not generating more power is because the computer is not setup for this application. Am I correct? If so, I'm calling Turner tomorrow (when their power comes back) to arrange for a chip.

    Questions:
    • Is the 325i DME inadequate without modification? Do I need a chip?
    • Should I get the 24 lb injectors and Euro HFM at the same time so I don't have to have the chip reprogrammed?
      or should I take advantage of the 6-month reprogramming window and buy them later?

    You're running the stock M50 software on an S52? That's the problem. I bet your A/F ratios are out of WHACK. Once you get the correct software, you should get back to the expected power output.

        My friend has the euro HFM on his S50 and likes it a lot.

          Yes it worth it

          Yah a friend has an OBD1 S52 swaped into his E36 325 to make a 332i and he has gone to the 24# and the 3.5 inch HFM from a 540 i think, but its 3.5 nun the less and its shit tons different even going to just the 24# from the 17#'s that were on the M50 that was in there he used just to get it to OBD1 made one hell of a diff.
          I mean in repects its not like turboing or nothing you not going to see that kind of a power increase. But the response from the 3.5 and the injectors is almost night and day and if you put that into and E30 man WHOOOw

            I would go with the turner chip. non ews, 3.5 hfm, 24lb injectors. I had that set up in my last car and it was worth it. the chip is 249.00 I have a 3.5 hfm for 100.00 if you want it.

              I'll take it.

              Do I keep the 413 red label DME from the 325 and add the chip to it? or do I need to get an M3 computer?

                Yes, you open the DME, remove the stock chip, and pop this new chip in. You use your stock 413 DME.

                    Ordered a chip from Turner today.
                    Configured for:
                    • S52
                    • OBDI intake manifold
                    • Euro HFM
                    • 24lb injectors
                    According to Drew from Turner, I should expect a 30 hp gain, which would put me around 220 whp.

                        Once you get those two little mods and a chip that's actually made for the setup your running, your going to be one happy man:pimp:

                        I wouldn't be surprised if you gained at least 45rwhp.

                          Drew's right, u should expect 30 whp, but maybe even up to 40-45whp, because of the tuning clean up. the tuning will make a world of difference, i know my car ran like crap on the red label 413 with those mods the first time we started it up. the day after when the chip came, it was like going from a 318 to an m3, you will definitely notice the difference :crazy:.
