Does anybody's center console get really hot??

After the car is warmed up and has been driving for a while I notice the center console gets really hot. You can feel it if you rest your hand on the plastic around the shifter or window switches and you can also feel it if you put your hand near the seam from the carpet to the plastic console. It gets to a point and just stays at a certain temperature, in the summer time I start sweating.

I have a factory e30 heatshield installed and a set of OBDI cats on the car. It's a 318is so there isn't much factory insulation or sound deadening in it.

Little help please, been bothering me for a while but in the winter it wasn't a big deal.

Could it be a bad heater core? My thermostat on my HVAC panel seems to work for shit too, it's f-in hot in this car with the temp turned to the middle.

I took mine out to put in the manual shifter and cross the right wires so the car will crank without the neutral switch... never bothered putting it back. Cleaner look.

Anyway, do you have any exhaust leaks?

If you don't have them switched your cruise won't work.

??? Cleaner look for a racecar. I like my console with the window switches and storage tray and all, it's useful stuff in a daily driver.

I don't think they are clogged, the car passed emissions with flying colors, and they are low mileage, like less than 75k.

Here's my setup after the manual swap. Sorry no pics of wiring, but I pretty much just ran the greens ti switched and grounded it so the little blue light would work.

                        Hey dave -

do you have the rubber boot installed in the shift hole? without it, it will get very hot.

also re: heater core.... there is a "hot water cut solenoid" that is actuated when the heat dial is turned all the way to cold. you can hear the relay and solenoid click if its working. if it doesnt work, you will get slightly warm air out of the vents in the summer......not cool air. ive only had a few e30's where it actually worked.

on a side note: exhaust vanos solenoid were not functioning on my car. new ones on the way......i hope that fixes everything.

                        cheers, jason
