    Wiring harness question

    Ok, so I'm working on my harness connections right now, after getting the vacuum shit figured out last night. I've got most of it down, but I think I'm short a three pin connector. One of the connections on my harness that is three pin is male and the rest are female, yet all the three pin connections on the engine are male. The one for the Cam position sensor is male, but has an odd shape that fits none of the female connections on the harness. Is it possible that my cam position sensor has the wrong type of connector? It's kind of the odd man out here as it's the only sensor that didn't come from the same engine as the rest of the stuff, it came from a 95 S50US whereas the harness and the whole bottom end connections are from a late 93 M50TU. Any help would be appreciated.

    Oh and if it turns out that the connector is the wrong type, I have spare female connectors that fit perfectly from my M20 harness that I can hook up to the cam pos sensor.

      Please, can anybody tell me what kind of connector their cam pos sensor uses?

        Should have two square type connectors on your harness around the same area. I installed my engine with the harness hooked up so mine were still mounted on the plate thing.

          I'll try and remember to look tonight, I just went through my wire harness and cleaned / labeled everything. I remember the connector you're talking about, but I don't remember what it is. I'll look when I get home from work. If I forget, PM me to remind me.

            if my memory serves me correctly.......my brother-in-law had the same problem with his s50. i thought the cam position sensor had a different plug. seemed really odd. unfortunately, i dont recall what ever happeded in the end. try to pm him. user name was new guy. cheers, jason

                Was the connector on the sensor male or female? Mine is male and has four alignment studs (two on top two on bottom) instead of three like all the female connectors on my harness, except for that one male one. Stupid male connector, WHAT ARE YOU FOR??????

                  I forget. But I remember that the cam sensor connectors were opposite of the crank sensor connectors so you couldn't confuse them.

                  Meaning you could connect the cam sensor directly to the crank sensor.

                    Yeah, that's what I've been thinking too, since that sensor is the odd man out, but before I cut off the connector and rewire the sensor to fit my harness I want definite confirmation of this. Please somebody confirm!!!

                          its easy to find the function of the connector. peel back the boot on both connectors and check wire colors. cross reference with etk if stumped.

                            Good idea, but it won't work, since the sensor and harness are from two different cars.

                              Ok, just checked my car and the cam sensor connector is female. Time to grab the soldering iron...:)

                              I also noticed that the Females are the ones with that clip on top that you push down to disconnect the connector from its male counterpart.
