SCCA American Sedans and TransAm cars are a lot faster on a road course with up to 55% rear weight. An American Sedan is faster with 50 pounds in the trunk. It more than offsets the liabilities of total weight and polar moment from the weight being outside of the wheelbase. Open wheel cars are usually about 30/70 for a reason. An E30 works well with 50-52% rear weight. Especially on a tight twisty course. This is based on observation - of a stopwatch.
Also obvious is that anything you do to take weight off the front is good whether you swap motors or not.

Will the getrag or ZF trannies add a considerable amount of weight? Just curious. I'm seriously getting interested in a potential swap.

I can lift my Getrag tranny with one arm, does that help?

i think someone on this forum had weighed both trannies finding that ZF is only 6-8lbs heavier.
