ebay headers

damn, i can see how it can be easily done with the stock headers, just not the ebay ones with the long downpipes...maybe i'm a noob at dropping engines that i even removed the a/c tensioner to clear the front/condenser and then how tight it still is with the firewall. idk good luck to you!! -
uhh, a bunch of ppl here have dropped the engine in w/ headers + tranny connected...thats how im going to do it.Leave a comment:

i have no spacers on my engine mounts and was considering putting a few mm but what effect will that have on the life of the engine mount?!
i might just put a rubber sleeve to keep vibrations on with the subframe at bay, and hopefully the O2 sensor will not fail from being against the firewall's heat shield...there's a reason i paid $120shipped for this thing.
the reason i didnt run the OBDII headers (which i still have in the garage) is 'cause its kinda convinient to have the headers end under the car and be able to hook up a stock e30/e36m3 exhaust or straight pipes whenever i want and not have to fabricate a downpipe...idk i made the headers work so prob be running straight pipes untill further notice ($hortne$$)
i dont think its possible to drop the engine and tranny along with the ebay headers attached....no way its possible. and bolting the transmission once the engine is in the car will prob be harder if not impossible.
fk i have to run to class sorry if what i typed is hard to understand!!Last edited by etxxz; 11-26-2007, 09:55 AM.Leave a comment:

Good tip! This might work for me. I've already got an engine hoist connected up to my motor, but the motor is still in the bay. I did this to facilitate getting the transmission out. I think I'll bolt my trans back in and then put the headers on while I've got the motor lifted 1/3 up out of the engine compartment.

If you don't have a lift and want to run the ebayz headers just drop the motor in with the headers ON the motor. Saves you this headache with another when you have to fight and massage the motor in with these on.Leave a comment:

I was already running the s52 header which i ported out and polished to match the ports in the head. The thing about the s52 headers is that they dont match the exhaust ports from the head because the welds are on the inside of the ports of the manifold and protude . Also they have sleeves that stick out into the flow of air( reach a finger in either of the middle tubes of the manifolds and you will feel what im talking about).
My ebay headers have lots of clearance fromthe subframe and bushing thank god. I also have a quarter inch spacer on my passenger side engine mount.
i recommend not doing this install unless you have a lift ,bottomline.Leave a comment:

A lift is almost a must for these. I installed mine after the engine was in the car. I also removed the engine mount arm heatshield and the headers just barely touch the arm. This really isn't a big deal since they are both solid mounted to the engine. I went ahead and spaced up my passenger side mount with 2 little washers. The headers were a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles hair away from the subframe before doing this.Leave a comment:

Is anyone using the massive block thingy which shims the motor up? I've received mine, but I haven't installed them yet. Any other tips!?
What's the best way to determine where to cut the stock e36 midpipe?
It's already hard to install the stock s52 manifolds on my car. It's not possible to bolt them in and then mate up the e36 midpipe. It's also not possible to get the midpipe in and then expect the fit the s52 manifold. I had to mesh them in together at the same time to make it fit.
BTW - My stock e36 s50 midpipe got dimpled to clear the subframe and sway bar. I'm hoping that I wouldn't have to dimple the ebay headers, but I'm not so confident after reading that last post. Sounds like a terrible experience! If it gets too hard, I'll give up and reinstall the s52 stuff. But, I need to make that decision before my existing midpipe gets cut.Leave a comment:

I didnt really have any problems i got it on the lift removed old headers all done from underneath the car. Then i installed the ebay headers by holding the engine up with a transmission jack, removed the engine arm to put the headers on, put two nuts on to hold them in place . Next i removed the rivets put the arm back and installed all of the nuts from the bottom of the car with a flex head gear wrench and a small ratchet socket combo. I did double check the top ones once the car was down other than it went under 2 hours or slightly under. This was on a lift though. Anyone who does this install on a driveway is a trooper or sure.Leave a comment:

i still dont understand you guys. Why not just run s52 headers?Leave a comment:

******damn. i need to express my agrovation with them ebay headers.... bought the black "ceramic" coated e36 ones. they do not even clear the e36 engine mount pfff
what a pain in the ass was it to get them in today...First, its hard as **** to get them into place. The front header didnt clear the heatshield on the e36 m3 engine mount so i had to kill myself and pry them rivets out, even so, the headers STILL touch the mount AND its like 1/5 of a milimeter away from the subframe...yes that close! i was gonna get them out to put the stock obdII headers on there, but it was nearly impossible to do so i said fuck it, lets just finish this.
the rear headers had the O2 sensor bung welded in a wierd place and that did not clear the firewall/wall heat shileld so i had to bend it all the way and it still touches the shield, wires are kinda bent, but its metal to metal so no harm to wires even under vibration....clearance with stock CAB is about 1.5mm but damm was it hard to mount.
word of advice....you better be able to flind a wrench like its nobodie's business and have flexible bones to be able to tighten the bolts since they are poorly designed and do not allow wratcheting of 3-4 rear bolts that you have to wrench from under the car with your arm between the headers and the block. damn i'm good!
i hope these dont friken vibrate or break from it 'cuase i'll leave them to leak all they frikin want...jaja ok maybe not, but i'm not gonna remove them...TOTAL TIME INSTALLING HEADERS. 6 hours, no breaks, no food, no beers, one cut, a hurting arm and a pissed of mom (dirty garage) but dang this car is lookin good!!! :D
conclusion, not happy with fitment, poor consideration for those installing, rear bolts and gaskets (individual ones btw!!) are a major PITA, terrible structure clearances :hitler:

now i'ma get my well deserved beers gn peeps!Leave a comment:

Ok got a question on these, are most of the ebay headers fitting in pretty well.
I already have my motor in and it seems that my forward exhaust manifold is about an inch and a half above my subframe. I was wondering if the ebay headers might help this a tad bit. Also i was hoping some one could let me know if it is posible to put these on with the motor already in. I am hoping and thinking (yes) but just wanted a confirmation as i dont have the means to take it back out and dont want to.Leave a comment:
