    m50-->e30

    Is the M50 worth putting into the e30 for a daily driver?

    What HP/ TQ can i expect from a nonvanos m50?

    Is it worth it to stroke it while im doing it? whats a good combo for 2.8 or 3.0?

    I know i can expect much more reliablity and general drivability and smoothness from this engine.

    i know of a 92 525i m50 in a local yard, and im thinking about getting it for the 450 bucks they ask.

    What would a thorough teardown and rebuild cost me?

    what can i get by with doing?

    and what should i expect..

    Thanks.

    A non-vanos M50 in stock form makes 189hp and 181 lb./ft. of torque. There is a cam upgrade you can do which involves putting the intake cam where the existing exhaust cam is and then buying a Schrick cam for the intake (can't remember the grind profile at the moment). What kind of power this set up makes is beyond me - probably 210-ish?

    Now you mentioned the option of building a 2.8 or a 3.0 out of this engine. Not exactly the most cost effective option but you would have a rebuilt motor to your specs....a piece of mind thing I suppose. If you were to have someone else do all the work you will be spending a pretty penny. If you're not desparate to do this swap right away keep your eyes peeled for a 3.0 S50 M3 motor. Better power and torque right out of the box and you can get one for less than a rebuilt/stroker M50.

    Just do a search on it - this topic has been kicked around quite a bit.
