    Shifter rubs on driveshaft

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. I have a S52 swap with ZF transmission. With a Z4 3.0 shift lever the bottom the the lever rubs on the driveshaft just a little bit. I was thinking that I could just put some washers between the center bearing and the body to space the driveshaft down just a little bit. Would this cause bad loads on the U-joints of the drive shaft?

    Thanks

can probably also use shorter UUC mounts or just space out the bolts that hold the tranny brace to lower it. I never tried this so take it with grain of salt.
My shifter is millimeters away from the driveshaft

My shifter is mm away as well, when we put it in, we were scared it would rub.

Flip the mount for the back of the shifter carrier. Reinstall it upsidedown.

I don't think you can avoid it really if there is too much length after the ball you can rub.

Besides effectivly raising the pivot point and ball area I'd suggest a different shifter.

A somewhat terrible explanation of what you can do:

If you could raise the pivot point you would need to modify or create your own shifter carrier. This would make the straight selector rod horizontal like it is from the factory instead of dipping down like it currently is down to the driveshaft where your shifter is, and this will get rid of some of the notchiness and movement from the straight selector rod.

Linked to make myself a little more clear

( I know you may be using different linkage):

Ya I get that the short shifter lowers the pivet point and that's why it's rubbing.

But what shifter levers are people running and not having rubbing issue?

stock one that came with the ZF works pretty well. Im rockin the stock one but i shotened the top half of the shaft about an inch. works great.

just put a bracket in place of the forward pin for the shift carrier and attach the bracket to the body so that the carrier is no longer attached to the tranny (would effectively make the carrier body mounted).

                        ^ Thats a novel idea .

But might just be a bit elaborate for this .

I think your initial thoughts of spcing/shimming down the trans crossmember might be the best/easiest solution , depending on how much its rubbing of course .

That is a nice set up. The body mounted shifter looks like a decent solution to this problem. Are there companies that sell that for the e30? That looks hawt.:D
