Reweighed my car the other weekend. Either the scale before was under weight....or the new scale is overweight (doubt as we weighed another car that we are pretty sure on the weight). The car got painted and some other things added to it....but....it was around 2315 with about 5 gallons of gas.

      engine weight

Great thread but does anyone have factory weights of various engines? (M20, S14, M30, M50, S50/52) This would allow an easier comparison. I have always thought an S50 would be the way to go when the time comes to replace my M20. I surely want more
power but if it kills the handling then the car isn't going to be any more fun. It does sound like most have had decent luck dialing their S50 cars back in however. Obvioulsy there will be some tradeoff if you add weight at the front but i would love to know precisely how much. Thanks.

          That's what I'm talking about!

Weighing my car is on my list of things "to do".

It's deceiving about the block. 318's are generally lighter than other e30's. While interesting, I dont think this thread showed us much about how much lighter/heavier common swaps are. If they were all swaps done on the same type of e30, that would be really interested.

With that said, it's nice seeing what different combo's give us.

components are smaller too. smaller diff, smaller axles if i'm not mistaken. Probably much more that I don't know about. I'm willing to bet smaller tank too, maybe I'll look it up in my owner's manual.

It's the Australian compliance plate...standard fair on all vehicles in Australia from new...it basically means it meets the Australian safety standards.

So I've LOST around 32 Kilos going from M20 to M54.

                              Sweet!

I like to think of it as 6cyl power with 4cyl handling :D...though I'm still hanging out to see definitive data on the weight of the M42...and S14 for that matter.
