Well count the holes in the top of that shiny new timing cover you got and that's how many bolts you need to remove. My engine is also an s52. Someday it will even be in my car lol.

See those fatter round areas at the top? They are bosses for the threaded holes that the bolts go into.

There should be three e-torx bolts that hold the timing cover to the head. One of the bolts holding the lower timing chain rail in the head does not pierce the head. It's readily apparent which one it is upon removal--viewed from the front, it's one over from the left-most bolt.

There are four M6 bolts from the bottom holding the timing case to the oil pan.

I was prepping my block for paint and I noticed what might be hairline crack in the timing case ealier. I'm just trying to figure out what is needed to just get the case off if it is cracked. Doesn't seem like a big deal to get off...

Yeah, if the crank bolt and harmonic damper and hub are removed, it's no big deal. Just a whole mess of M6 fasteners on the front, 3 etorx on top, 4 M6 on the bottom.

EDIT: oh snap. That's going to be a sick setup.

it's only 1. if you look at the top left of the first pic you'll see the extruding tube for it. It's one of the bolts that holds the secondary chain guide in place. Be careful, it strips easily.

Yeah there's more than one bolt holding that together.
