Go ahead and do the torque angle, both of them. Do one sequence, then let it sit for about 10-15 minutes before doing the next sequence. That should let it get to where it needs to be. If the HG still leaks, then pull it off and put some studs in there with a new gasket.

Why studs? Waste of ~$150 for most people.

You don't really have anything to lose by trying to torque it the rest of the way now. The worst that can happen is the headgasket leaking, which it already is!
