my mechanic put a 1/4" thick shim under driver side to clear the ix booster. running stock obd1 manis. Is it really that bad to shim only one side? 1/4" is also pretty substantial by your standards guys.
the booster is only 2-3mm away from the shaved mani, so this shim is needed
oh and i am using the e34 m5 mounts (black cylindrical)Comment

Hm. I am SHIM CITY on my 318is, running OBD-I manifolds and midpipe and a 944 booster. There's probably 3/8" of washers on both sides to clear the booster and midpipe.
I'm using 2 Meyle brand 535i mounts. Trapezoidal-ish in shape.

So as an update, since I dropped my motor in last week, I'm thinking I'll be fine without shim since I chose to bend my Ebay header rather than add a shim plate.
As it fit without bending, my front header (turns into the inner downtube) was hitting my subframe, so I put the floorjack under it, jacked it into the unibody & let it sit for 20 minutes, then released tension. The result was that I now clear my subframe by a generous 3/16", and now the tail end of the pipes sit parallel.
I had to bend downward my upper heater core hardpipe about 3/8" to get out of the OBD1 intake, but other than that I don't see a spot that will cause me any issues.
TTT.
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.Comment

Green "bell pepper" E28 mounts, E36 arms (both sides)
Shaved last 2 manifold fins (they were not hitting, but they were too close)
eBay OBD2 replica exhaust manifolds w/ dimpled & modified OBD1 downpipes/cat
No shimming. The fit is a little tight with the exhaust, but it does not rub.
