My CEL light has been on since i fired my car and today i tried to pull those codes to no avail. The Peake tool didnt work. The tool itself works so what could be wrong?

yes there is power to something like pins 12 and 14. I did not know the stomp test works with 24v's. I will try that.Comment

cool i will try this tomorrow. I thought of this and would have tried it, but i couldnt remember exactly how it went and i didnt want to figure it out if i didnt know for sure if it could work.Comment

I am pretty baffled by this post... is it a joke I don't get?
Any luck, Dustin?Comment

I sat down for a few min but i couldnt get the stomp test to work. I need to look at some diagrams to see whats up with port. What all pins need to have power? I get volt in two pins. My car is running really rich and i am not sure i got the o2s on right, i pulled the harness apart when rolling the car so i just soldered the wires together. I might try and fix the running rich part and see if the CEL will go away. Does a lack of o2 cause the car to run rich? there is also slight hesitation from 3-4 rpm.Comment

the CEL will light up with a bad or missing o2 sensor. yes, the car will run really rich with an o2 sensor missing.
cheers, jason

Your VANOS may be sticking. I used to have a strange hesitation around there also, and a new vanos fixed it.I sat down for a few min but i couldnt get the stomp test to work. I would definitely suggest a new O2 sensor also, and make sure it's hooked up properly. Feedback from the O2 sensor is critical.Comment

It's a manual trick to get the fault codes from the ECU. By turning the key to the "on" position (with the engine not started) and pressing the gas pedal 5 times quickly the CEL (Check Engine Light) will flash long and short bursts, which can be decoded into fault codes.
Called the "stomp test" because you have to "stomp" the pedal quickly.
I have never been able to make it work on my car. If you have a friend with the Peake tool that's the way to roll. Much slicker, plus you can reset the damn oil light. :pimp:
This might be worth a sticky or addition to the Wiki as a lot of folks probably have chronic CEL's that could be fixed relatively easily.

I checked my wiring job on the o2 sensor and everthing looked good but i checked for volt when running and nothing was coming through any wire. I am going to mess around at the relay on sunday. I didnt drive the car but everthing seemed the same when i ran the car with the o2s and with one not plugged in. What should i look for at the relay?Comment
