Good isn't always cheap. and $600 for a stage 2 or better clutch isn't even close to expensive. BMW doesn't lay the meat to us on clutches like some companies.
Like the link says, costs vary widely for same thing, so one of those places it really pays to shop - I know I will if I even need a replacement M5 disc & bearing for mine.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.Comment

Eh, go buy a chinese "gripforce" ebay special. I think their "M3" clutch is ~180 bucks. You can be the guinea pig.
Think a mostly stock M50tu will kill a standard M20 clutch with a lightweight fly? I'm debating/cheaping out on which way I want to go.

I bought from Gripforce but they sold me a fidanza flywheel and a Sachs sport clutch for E36 M3. Claimed it has 3 times the clamping force of the stock M3 clutch.
Better to be overbuilt, than broken down.:nice:Originally posted by 325Projectzdon't listen to the diagram... listen to mr. swiss.Comment

Well I went ahead and bought the clutch linked in my first post on this thread. I sent a best offer and it ended up being $260 total with tax and shipping. If the parts I receive actually look good, I'll give it a shot and see how it works out. If not, I'm sure I can resell it.Comment

Custom clutch kit Rant-- stages are B.S.
Go to www.superiorclutch.com I highly recommend donig this.
Or call Robin and talk to him your self-- 408-436-1189.
This guy is a San Jose local (since 1985) that makes custom clutch kits for anything;
OEM (but better), Drifting, custom 4x4, hauling/towing, big rigs, street, drag racing, show cars, etc.
You tell him what setup you have, how much hp you are intending to make, what you will be using the vehicle for, then he'll recommend a few things and you decide what you need.
All kits are custom made to your specs/needs.
You can also mass order a kit if you want to.
Most kits have a warranty- even for racing.
I put a full kevlar disc (also the disc springs are modified to meet my driving style) in my toyota with all stock parts, it has to be the smoothest cluth i've ever driven and fucking sweet for off roading because the kevlar has a high fade temp-- no more buring clutch smell.
I was told that my new clutch would not break like my stock one did, I will
be buying a driveline or trans before that happens.
I will be buying all of my clutches for my E30 and all other vehicles i may own from Superior Clutch.
Stage kits are just different packages/kits an individual company makes.
They shoul say "kit 1" not "stage 1".Comment
