    AKG's adapter

Just thought I would let you guys know that we got it over at the shop yesterday. It's junk! Yes, it does work though. It look like they used all used junkyard parts for the connectors and wiring. They did not even solder the wired together, only butt connected. All of the extra wired were not removed and were just sitting in there. The best part, it was wrapped in electrical tape! Definitely not a clean adapter, the one I made for my 85 325e's i motor swap is nicer!

    Anywho, just letting everyone know!

Too bad it still isn't worth $400, no matter what you try to tell me.

As far as AKG's adapter, no real loss. They cost was split between 3 people.

Maybe I can get pics at some point.

According to Luke, butt splices are superior to soldered joints like that.

I would tend to agree with that. It's still no good to use used connectors, used wire, used pins...

Whats wrong with used? It's not like engine bay gunk on exposed wires causes changes in resistance for precise electronics.

solder can change the resistance being sent through wires. For some sensors that can give you faulty readings, therefore crimping is useful. Soldering is good for wires that pass current as opposed to measuring resistance. Plus, solders can break

Is the $400 adapter assembled with new connectors and new pins? ie: no splices?

If they are buying new from bmw, then they probably make $200 on each harness.

                              R&D + Mfg + Parts = $400.00
                              0 + 0 + Parts = <$200.00

I say fair deal, $200.00 is less the cost of a new windshield as you get pissed off and repeatedly slam a pair of wire strippers/soldering iron thru said windshield.
