the e21 brake booster is a little over 9in (roughly) in diameter and the stock e30 booster is about 10.5in (roughly). I did shave the first 6 fins off the m50 manifold almost flat.

Scabzzzz: I agree with you. And this definetly made me think that something is wrong that it fits in my car vs. anyone else's.

For my own piece of mind, I'd like to try and put the tranny in with the stock booster in there and see if it fits. If it doesn't, I already have an e21 booster that i can modify to fit. I don't want any spacers under the mounts for the same reason that some of you stated, even though some people haven't had any trouble.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between '97 z3 motor mount arms vs other e36 motor mount arms? ie, pushes the motor forward more in the engine bay?

      +1

I have the m5/iX/735 double chambered booster which is a lot narrower and I only have like 1/4" clearance tops, WITH fins shaved and 1/4" spacers on the motor mounts (this is mainly for exhaust but it gives extra booster clearance too).

Maybe your motor mounts are uneven size? I wouldn't even do that since unless you space your tranny mounts the same way, the driver's side will be under extra load. And if you do space it, your tranny will sit at an angle and these swaps already put the shifter off to the right side.

I'm thinking that might put a little more side-load onto the booster than you want, when you depress the brake pedal, leading to a shortened booster lifespan. It gets you running though. Could be wrong of course, and it may lead a full and healthy life?
