since my oilpan exploded i need to replace it, i have the metal gasket with the rubber around the inside. would it be ok to just use it as is or should i add some of that gasket maker/sealer also? I dont really wanna do it because i dont feel liek pulling the engine totally out of the car, or maybe i'm just being lazy right now and it seems like too much work to add the sealer and trying to line it up up there.

In the Bentley, they show 4-points on the pan where additional sealer is necessary. -

You put two dabs of sealant where the timing cover meets the front of the block, and two dabs of sealant where the rear main seal carrier meets the rear of the block.
Basically, where aluminum meets cast iron.

Is there anything bad about adding a bead of silicone all around? I'm paranoid about oil pan leaks so I cleaned the surfaces as well as I could and siliconed both sides of the gasket (with special attention to the metal alu/steel joints).
