caution. that is an early 260. check out the thread.

NOT ALL 260'S ARE CREATED EQUAL

be careful with the early 325es trans.....its different than the 325i trans.

    cheers, jason

ok i read it, it didnt really make any sense to me. what i got was that the early 260 had a dual mass flywheel, and the late 260 had a single mass. You tried to use a single mass in my car and it was hitting the e34 oil pan bolts so you had to grind the flywheel down to compensate this made the flywheel too small so its 3/16 to slim for the clutch fork to relase the clutch. so what you did is you welded a 3/16" on the throw out bearing to disengage the clutch. right?

so if i wanted to use a late 260 i would need to use a e36 flywheel, clutch and starter?

the flywheel was turned to not hit the e34 pan bolts.....it does not change the stacking height. that was not the issue. the issue was that the early 260 has the fork farther away and will not disengage the clutch if a single mass flywheel is used. (lightend or stock)

the dual mass flywheel assembly (fly,, puck, plate) is thicker than the single mass flywheel assembly. SO....fork/throwout location is farther back on a dual mass getrag260.

now, to fit a single mass flywheel (lightened or not) in here (like on your car) you will need to either 1. move the fork / enlongate slave rod. or 2. increase stacking height of the clutch assembly.

i did number 2. added a spacer between flywheel and crank (+4mm +/-) and enlongated the throwout bearing tabs (+7mm +/-). i think you could also use an 84 323i throwout bearing. the old 323's had a single mass flywheel, the same old trans and a longer throwout bearing. i think thats how they got the lightened flywheel / clutch combo to work.

if you wanted to use the late 260 (e30 325i getrag) simple.
you would remove the spacer, put in a stock throwout bearing and use the late style slave.

EDIT: also wanted to mention that the output flange (holds the guibo) is a different size, i think the center support bearing was different, and so was the clutch slave cylinder.) all from memory, im getting old, just something to verify.

        cheers, jason

            yes, you have a 92 525 motor, 90 e30 clutch, and everything else is an 86 325es.....what a mess.
