for those running the e30 m3 wiring harness covers

how the hell did you get the harness wires compact enough to squeeze under the main cover along the firewall? i don't know how i can possibly make the wires smaller to snap the cover on. any tricks on routing the wires to make things work? thanks.

cut out some unnecessary bulk from the harness and use lot of zip ties. It's hard and takes a long time

If you have a auto harness its almost impossible. I dunno if you want to take the risk of cutting out something, never know might need it later. On mine i had the cover snapped shut on the front, but not the rear. Looked okay but not perfect.

Try fitting a RHD Euro harness - it's next to impossible! I ended up have to use a couple zipties to hold things closed.

If you do some trimming to the baseplate and ziptie the harness every couple of inches, it should fit with no issues.

after about a hour yesterday i have almost everything fitting. i had an auto harness and i removed the auto harness plus and wiring. i moved the relays from the passenger side to the relay holder on the cover above the intake manifold and cinched everything down with zipties. i also had to trim a bit of the cover above the intake manifold. i have it fitted and just need a little bit more room on the passenger side to get the last clip to fasten.

With my e34 harness my only complaints are the main engine harness has too much rubber on the block parts to smoothly fit into the cover for the center piece, and my damn harness is so short it took me an hour of tugging and getting creative, to finally get enough of the harness into the cabin for my dme to bolt into the 318iS dme mount... I never realized how much shorter the e34 harness really was.

I cut away a LOT of the harness. I removed the plug and wiring for the HFM, purge valve, diagnostic plug, automatic tranny, O2 sensor, I mean a lot of unnecessary wiring since I am using MS2/extra. I still ended up using a shit ton of zip ties to compress the wires to a reasonable state and still had to use zip ties to hold the cover in place.

I also used one zip tie on the outside of the cover to hold it together. i got it to snap together without the zip tie, but with force. I was afraid the vibrations from driving on the track might pop it open, the zip ties prevent that from happening.

I had an auto harness and cut a good chunk of it out. That and zipties.
