Well yeah... can't swap hydraulic lifters without swapping trays. I guess that may not be obvious to everyone on here.

So.. If I wanted to help out my M50 I should swap all those parts in? I just have the cams + appropriate conforti chip waiting to go in. Should I wait and get springs + lifters ( + trays.. ;)) ?

I ran my M50 with stock valvesprings and S50 cams for a year or so with a 7200 RPM rev limit and no problems. Your mileage may vary.

An M50 in an E30 is just enough to put a smile on your face. I think the opinions here about it being slow are a bit harsh. That just lets me know the M50 wasnt running properly to begin with.

I think it all depends on the time and effort put into an m50 swap. I would've shot myself if I would've gone through all the shit I did over my s52, if i ended up with m50 power. However, if it doesn't take too much stress, $, or time consumption, i don't see how putting a faster, more reliable motor into an e30 is a bad idea.

I have a M50NV, im wondering if i have a s52 bottom end, can i just put the NV head on a s52 bottom end.

and how strong is the s52 bottom end compared to the NV bottom end?

And what kind of compression am i going to see?

Ha. It took me the better part of 9 months to get my motor in my car and running. But of course, I did do a full tear down and built a factory fresh motor.

I plan to do the actual swap in a weekend. I'll do everything I can outside of the car and be well prepared.

A weekend swap would be easy... the second time.

Yeah - me and jordan just did a s52 in a weekend. Unfortunately he had to order some new parts so that took some time.

I still can't believe that he thinks his motor, with it's mods, put at 275 at the flywheel. That's just obnoxious.
