    A hello and a few Q's

I'm new here, still new-ish to bimmerforums, and I've only had my 325iC for a few months now.. ;), but I'm glad to have found such a competent and helpful bmw community. Anyway, I picked this up as a first car (before you ask, I'm 17), wayyy over paid, found it to be a total project car, and, oh, yeah, I love it to death!

So, the reason I come here is that I found an M50 under the hood, along with M3 exhasut, cai, 4.10 lsd.. (eruo elips/grill, M3 lux seats, z3 shifter, blisteins+bav auto springs, e30 m3 rack.. yadda yadda). I'm still in the process of dumping $$ into it just to get it decent (this friday she gets H&R springs, brembo rotors, ss lines, new pads, along with other neccesities, like the fact that my clutch will barely disengage). otherwise, the tops crap (will be replaced soon) and the seats are going to be refinished. New wheels (have 14 weave and kopis, but they just arent doin it) comming soon, probably ronal ls'. Come summer, I hope to have a plan for the body (m-tech is ideal, but $$ is tight, maybe just new spoilers and paint will do).

I was kinda upset that whoever did the swap only went with M50, so I sourced some S50 cams + software that im waiting to put in. Any other ideas to make up for my loss? Also, my mpg gauge and mpg on the obc wont function, so if anyone knows how to get any of that functional post-swap that'd be a huge help!

Just wanted to give a shout to yall that shes in good hands and I'm getting her back to her former glory (and beyond). Any other tips for a newb welcome.

And, yes, it did have a r3vlimited.com sticker on the rear side window...

I hope whoever buys my car doesn't complain that I only went with an M50.

Right on for the purchase. As far as the m50 power goes, is yours a vanos motor or no? aka, does it have a bulge in the valve cover towards the front or is it flat?

The mpg on the cluster and on the obc will not function without some crafty electrical nonsense that nobody plays with. Too new school to use the calculator on your phone each time you fill up to figure it out? ;)

Yes, sorry, it is a vanos M50. And, uhh, haha, odo gear just gave out, so right now I'm calculating milage by riding the route on ym bike and using the tick marks on the gas guage to guestimate. It doens't work so well.. . I'm hoping current mods + chip 'n cams + maybe pulleys will = close to what a stock s50 would put out. I might have to get headers and redo the exhaust to get to my goal of ~190 wheel (great for e30, espescially with that diff).

Speaking of which.. I'm running the 14 basketweaves with CRAPPY tires and when I turn sharply and accelerate those tires plus lsd never fail to sing me a tune. It's annoying, but it may be the nature of the beast.

You are missing a wire hookup if your MPG gauge doesn't move at all. I don't think anyones is accurate, but mine has always worked.

my MPG on the gauge cluster looks like it works, probably isnt accurate, but it moves. you need to look at yer wiring again.

I hoped the same thing... I thought it was pretty powerful IMO.

yeah, his wife was ready to divorce him over it.

Any tips would be great. So far I have fixed a bunch of minor things (like gas tank seals). any other tips/plans?

Yeah, with S50 cams and software, the M50 can be quite nice.

I know there are a lot of M50 haters out there, but you cannot argue with ~185+ whp with S50 cams.

Sounds like a cool purchase dude!

I agree Fred! i made like 175 with exhaust and a chip! cant go wrong. Its way better than the m20 anyday.

My econometer worked too. It kinda crapped out but i havent gotten around to looking at it cause i done care. I hate seeing that thing at like 7 mpg all the time ( :) ) haha. Im waiting for the ecomometer boost gauge so it actually means something im interested in...

im glad its getting the TLC it needed. I Sold it under the impression that it was going to get partked and finished.
I def would do cams and software. The M50 is plenty for that car. Esp with the 4.10

learn to drive what you have. any 24valve swap is more than most drivers can handle. especially ones with out any formal driver training. my m52/s52 cammed car could go faster than i could think sometimes. so dont have regret that "you ONLY have a m50"

and on topic. my mpg meter would sit at 30+ at idle, then peg 0 if i barely touched the throttle.
