You are probably right, swapping to an M50 could narrow the market down to a few hardcore BMW lovers, who want to mod their car. A regular 318is could appeal to someone also considering other similar priced cars I suppose, since it has good fuel economy with a lot more luxury features than a Japanese car or similar. On the other hand, it would be interesting to see who actually responds to an ad for an un-modded 318is. I'm honestly not sure what demographic would be calling. Has anyone here had experience with selling such a car?
Good point. Buying someone else's project could be a headache, as maybe you wont agree with what they did. So far I've been very careful to keep everything stock. However, if I got a knowledgeable buyer they'd know if I did it right by hearing how I did it perhaps. These forums have great information to learn what a good swap looks like, vs ones that were not so optimal. Such a buyer might be looking for a pristine car though, and mine is not. It has a few little dents and a bit of rust on one of the front fenders and valance. Not bad for 200k miles, considering the interior is nice. Pic gallery of my car here. These were shot the day I looked at it, before I bought it.
I guess it all boils down to who buys these. Anyone here have experience selling an E30? Or a 318is? Who shows up to test drive?
