    Whatever though, sounds like there's more to it than initially stated but I still don't believe he would have done this and without hearing his side, which we probably won't, I don't want fellow E30ers (esp those from the GTA) taking this as gospel. If nothing else, a man of his integrity would have fixed this without a peep if it was brought to his attention before the internet.
    nice backpedaling! you make strong statements, using words like "low" in my address, and now you 'whatever' once proven wrong? good going! Guess you don't hold yourself responsible for the statements you make. I hope others will be smart enough to realize value of such statements in future.

      i just got off the phone with the mechanic

      indeed it was him who put the bolts in, but, according to him, only because the thread inside the block was too big to take the M8.
      I know for fact tho that the thread inside wasn't proper SAE, as the threads on the SAE bolt i took out was all mangled.

        update: decided to chase threads with a tap. Chased, then drove the proper M8x1.25, pulled the threads right out while torquing

        well, it's better to see those threads pulled in garage than on a track...

        helicoil time

          IM not a fan of helicoiling, I would just for tap it out to next size bigger and go with actual threads in the block... Just my opinion i am not a fan of helicoinling tho i just feel unsafe with them...

            why do you feel unsafe with them? just curious

            it's been scientifically proven that helicoiled threads are usually few times stronger than the threads in the original medium (in addition to spreading the load on individual threads more evenly).
            btw, from my brief research, the helicoils were invented to fix stripped threads on airplanes. I say if it's good enough for planes, it's good enough for a car ;)

              Helicoils are plenty safe if installed properly. Just be sure to use the proper drill bit size as specified on the package.
