nice backpedaling! you make strong statements, using words like "low" in my address, and now you 'whatever' once proven wrong? good going! Guess you don't hold yourself responsible for the statements you make. I hope others will be smart enough to realize value of such statements in future.
need some advice

i just got off the phone with the mechanic
indeed it was him who put the bolts in, but, according to him, only because the thread inside the block was too big to take the M8.
I know for fact tho that the thread inside wasn't proper SAE, as the threads on the SAE bolt i took out was all mangled.Comment

why do you feel unsafe with them? just curious
it's been scientifically proven that helicoiled threads are usually few times stronger than the threads in the original medium (in addition to spreading the load on individual threads more evenly).
btw, from my brief research, the helicoils were invented to fix stripped threads on airplanes. I say if it's good enough for planes, it's good enough for a car ;)Comment

well thanks for telling me this after i ordered the perma-coil kit

meh... i just wanna get it over with
EDIT: there is a very insightful discussion comparing various inserts here: (and helicoils apparently still have advantages over other kinds)
