Follow up on gauge temp prob. fixed?

Well, I posted that I had purchased the TMS wiring adapter and was quickly told that it wasn't meant to be used on e30 obd1 conversions.

    here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=108151

Anyway, I purchased the e30 temp sender (brown top/cap) and instead of tapping the head, i was able to grind it down and tap the e30 temp sender to fit the pre-drilled hole that was meant to go to the TB. Has anyone here done this? in logic it makes sense and i do not see why that wouldn't work, it allowed me not to tap the head. I noticed my gauge sensor working a bit better now, i ran the car for 5 minutes, but it only moved up a quarter, barely above the blue. Does this sound normal or is something still messed? It seems like something is working because it wasn't even going up before.
