i think i've trouble shot everything back to the ecu.

With Key in ON position, i have power at the relay (part of the engine harness) but have no power at the fuel pump fuse (part of body harness).

is there a way to test the ecu, other than plugging it into another car....?

      alright,

enough f*ing around. I ordered a code reader from Bav Auto today. should be here by wednesday. Once i pull the codes, if any (there had better be some friggen codes), i'll post up what it is.

        PROBLEM SOLVED:

It ended up being a combination of many things.

        - bad ground cables at body to motor mount
        - replaced with 2 new ones

        - slightly oxidized (not sure why cause it was new) wiring harness adapter
        - filled the f*ing thing on both sides with dielectric grease and slammed them back together

        - bad "new" fuel pump relay
        - currently still using jumper wire, will get a new one next week

        - bad fuel pump
        - replaced with 90 5.0 mustang fuel pump (modified slightly to work). 1/3 of the price of a new e30 fuel pump, btw

        - bad fuel
        - changed out about 8 gallons of fuel with new 93 fuel and a can of dry gas

        - previous owner's alarm system
        - not really sure what to say about this. I had ripped most of it out before when i first bought the car. Not sure that this had anything to do with the problem, but i went through and double checked everything i pulled out. I found one relay that i missed, but it was only connected on one side...

        - shit luck...
I'm not really sure why all of a sudden i was getting the jumper wire in the relay socket to work and send power to the fuse box, which then sent power to the fuel pump, which was junk anyway.... It was probably just a lot of the little shit listed above that ended up working itself out.

I was pretty close to throwing in the towel and scrapping the whole project. I was just getting pissed at the fact that i couldn't figure out what was going on. I even bought a bav auto code reader to see if that could help me, which it didn't, but i'll have it for the future. I thought for sure my computer was junk and I almost bought a new one. I'm glad i didn't though and the problem worked it's way out as I changed/modified certain things.

At any rate, i ordered the new o2 sensor and it should arrive next week. I've got a brake line in the rear that i have to replace. I'm dropping the car off next thurs to have the exhaust done and I should have it on the road by friday. pretty excited.

        thanks for everyone's help.

the search button is a great tool when doing a project like this.
