    My boring M50 E30 conversion almost finished!

    After hearing about how much of a waste of time the M50 conversion would be, I'm nearly complete. This has been in the making for over a year now. Almost everything I know about 24V swaps into E30s was gleaned from various threads and members here @ r3v limited. Thanks a million!!!!

    The chassis is a 1991 318is that has had several different power plants in the past. I acquired the car as a rolling shell and decided it was time for a BMW engine again. I scored a cheap M50V bottom end and mated it with a 1997 S52 head but using OBDI manifold and ECU/harness. I ended up with a ZF tranny, Fidanza flywheel, and a 328i driveshaft. The diff is a welded (4.10) unit but I might have to rethink that rear end ratio pending a dyno test. I'm using a 506 DME with custom tuning by me (MattK @ DSG). I built the chassis wiring harness from scratch using Tefzel wire, Raychem DR-25 shrink, Mil spec switches, etc. I'm using an AIM MXL Pro dash/logger which really simplifies the dash layout. Well enough babbling how about some pics :)

    The car is dusty as hell from being in a fabrication shop for 6 months! I tried to keep her clean but it's tough, and the flash makes everything look like crap.

    She is riding on TMS J stock suspension package, Ireland camber mounts, TMS delrin CABs, Ireland camber/toe adjusters, Ireland subframe bushings, Massive 11.75x1.25 race kit (thanks Lee!!), Wilwood Polymatrix B pads, and Kinesis 17x9s all around wrapped in 274/40/17 Hoosiers (TMS Take offs).

    I couldn't have done this without the help and support of my girlfriend, Martine. She has put up with more than anyone cam imagine and helped to keep the project on track and bound for success. Also to my co-workers at DENT Sport Garage, thanks for the storage and work space, technical consulting, and amazing fabrication work. This has truly been a group effort and I feel fortunate enough to have these people in my life. Thanks everyone!!

    Dyno numbers coming this week and hopefully some lap times in early May.

            Awesome, I remember when this car was built up roughly 5 years ago by the guy at Dent garage (SR20 or 4G63 I think). Should be a beast when it's ready to go

              Yup this is Alex's old car. I work for DSG dyno tuning cars.

              The rears already have some fiberglass flares and the fronts, well I've got some ideas but nothing done yet. Otherwise some more Ebay fiberglass numbers.

                  Is the blue line running across the top of your engine an oil pressure line, or what? Can't quite tell from the photos. Looks like an excellent swap, though.

                    It's the fuel feed line. The factory fuel rail has been modified to accept -6 feed and return lines.

                      Interesting. Why is it running into the firewall in front of the glove compartment?

                      Your install looks pretty much like what I'm shooting for in my M52 install.

                        Because the fuel feed and return lines run down the passenger side sill inside the car for protection. No OEM fuel lines here! I'll take some more interior pics for clarification.

                          I'm under the impression that running fuel lines inside could be unsafe if you ever got a cabin fire?

                            They are made from stainless braided (return) and hard aluminum (feed) and well supported. In the event of a cabin fire, I'll be way the hell out of there anyways! I have an OMP AFFF fire system also. I'd rather have the lines inside the car and protected rather than exposed to rocks and the road on the bottom of the car.

                              How are you tuning the DME? Tunerpro?

                              I have been IDing tables for a new project and my head is spinning. This is why I have a techno, dammit.

                              Did you ever try to get any data out of the ECU via the data signals? We ended up trying it and it was so slow that it was totally useless.
