So the Zf+ 3.25 is actually going to be shorter than my g260 with a 3.73?

I guess i might look for an eta with a 2.93. What years were those? Also do you have to swap the cover? Doesnt really matter, just curious.

-No cover-swap needed on the eta diff.
      84-85 have 2.79
      86-88 have 2.93

If you're staying N/A I would suggest the 3.25. The car will feel overall more responsive than it would with a 2.93. E36 M's came with a 3.15 and 3.23 ratio so I doubt going taller is a good idea.

The 2.93 is not that bad, though, if it's more readily available to you. Going 105 in 3rd is pretty cool :D (I have a 2.93)

Hey so Im bringing this thread back from the dead.

I have a zf trans that came off the 328is with my m52. 5th gear is 1:1. Now heres the kicker, Im dropping the M52 and ZF into my AUTOMATIC 325is. Yup, thats right, 4.10 rear end.

Is all hell going to break loose with the ZF and 4.10 lsd? Top speed in 5th will be 108mph at 6800 rpm I never drive highway and I live in the twisties, so the fastest my car ever goes is 70. How much of a b!tch will it be?

I am putting the same motor in trans on the same car with the same diff. I wouldnt mind hearing others thoughts on this ass well.

I only had a 4.10 for a couple quick test drives and it was completely worthless. 1st gear is basically non-existant.

I wanna be able to scare small children and other drivers when I floor it in second and spin tires all the way through third. Will this be possible?

A ZF with a 4.10 will basically be a 4 speed close ratio trans with a rock crawler gear.

3:23 is your middle ground for performance/efficiency, this is the stock E36 ratio.

I ran a 3:73 this summer, its stupid short.

Running a 2:93 now and satisfied with gas mileage/long gears.

Once Im done with the swap, Ill post up some videos. If its really that bad, Ill go down to a lower ratio. But the first week or two will be lots of fun haha

                          Helical 3.15 from a z3 2.5, then you'd have same revs as a 95 M3.

I've got one in my S52 swap (G260 trans though), and I like the way the diff behaves, and it's geared nice for highway civility and gas mileage

bah well Ill sell the 4.10 I guess. My parts car has a 3.73 so Ill start there and work my way down if its still to short. I dont care about top end speed or gas milage per say its 3 cars removed from a daily.

You don't want much above an S3.25 in an M/S/50/52 on a ZF. I ran a S3.46 and driving on the highway at 3,600rpm in 5th going 60-70 was irritating as shit.

I went to an S2.93 and love it. Super mellow and still hauls ass juuuust fine.
