s52 or s50

s52 and s50 will net you aprox similar range of 225-260ish. Minor bolt-ons like 3.5" Meter, 21-24# injectors, eBay headers, OBD1 on either with a chip/tune.
The main benifit of the s52 is the fact that there are more years produced, the s50 was a 1 year run. Also, there were valve dropping issues with the early s50's. Add in the fact that the power comes on at a much lower RPM is an added bonus. s52 is a more "point-n-shoot" type ar, whereas the s50 will build from dead stop acceleration. In otherwords, the s52 is a lower rpm torquer engine option. And an additional 0.2L in displacment.

There have been several people on r3v that have thrown s50s into their e30s only to replace them with an s52 later on. That should tell you all you need.
As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
