*** just make sure you do what they do in the pics, only with the rod rotated 90° for the getrag 260 tranny.

Don't know what you mean, but it should be done exactly as the photos indicate.

That doesn't help the 12 degree tilt, that is for clearance for the vibration dampener.

Turning it 90 degrees will only turn the actual lever on the vertical plane, I don't see how it will make getting into fifth gear any easier.

On another note, I had to trim my tunnel to get clearance with my Z4 3.0 lever, with the selector rod twisted ~5-8 degrees. The knob barely rubs the console in both reverse and fifth, so twisting it any more wouldn't have helped, as it would have just rubbed the console even more in reverse.

        now i am so confused....

so what do I need to do in order to get the 260 getrag into 5th? I've been told that the selector rod needs to be bent 10-12°....

You do need to twist it 10 degrees, if using a stock shifter (according to general consensus). I did not find this to be the case with my Z4 shifter, because the fat part actually hits the tunnel opening.

Twisting in this case means literally twisting, not bending. Think Twizzlers. haha

Just stick one end in a vise and twist the other end with a pair of channel locks and test fit it until you can get it into 5th gear. I got lucky on mine and got it right on the 1st try. It's really not that big of a deal.
