    6 cyl in a 318is?

How much more complicate it is to swap an E36 6cyl in an e30 318 versus an e30 325?

    Thanks!

p.s. I want to buy the right car for my project!

that question depends on SO many variables....
it has also been debated before, search and you'll find some threads

Not really, its basicly the same thing. But seriously to the OP, there is a thread on the front page detailing an s52 into a 318. If you want to be spoon fed a swap is not for you.

            It's not any more complicated.

If you want to save money and reuse the E30 transmission, that's when the donor car matters.

However, due to your location (Canada), I would opt for the car with the least amount of rust.

I really want do this sawp I sure can do this. I will sure lurn a lot, but I a have a bit of mechanical experiences. Here is what I did myself on my jetta 92:

              Big front brake upgrade
drum brake to disc brake conversion
              all the bushings
              brake lines
              headers
              head gasket
              timing belt
              clutch
              rad
              intercooler add-on (1.9td)
              Etc...

I never swapped a car, but I feel ready for that. I know that It will be a lot of work, and I'm ready for that!

I just wanted to know if the wiring harness (or things like that) could be cary over from 6 cyl e30 to a 6 cyl e36...

              thanks!

and Uber E30, I will sure reed this project! thx a lot!

you'll be fine with a swap. It's really easy, once the motor is mounted all you have to do is start making the connections. You have to be a little creative making all the cooling hoses and power steering hoses work, but if you read enough on the forum here you will find solutions to almost any problem you can come up with. I did the swap with only documents I found on the internet and it was still very easy. Started up the first try and has never left me on the side of the road...15k miles and counting.

                  Good luck

It will be a long term project. I Presently have a jetta 92 as my daily/track car.

The e30 will be my summer/track car. I will start by upgrading the rolling chassis and then the engine. I am really enthousiast with this project!

Do you mean an oil cooler? An intercooler is for a turbo.

fast one: is a LSD expensive?

I just called back the owner of the 318is i've found and the car doesn't have any lsd.

A 318is LSD must be too high in ratio for a s50? Am I right?

                          he has a turbo-diesel!

OP: no, LSD can be picked up cheap ($250-350). A 318is' diff is OK ratio-wise (depends on tranny, tho) but it is too small for the s52's torque. Use a 3.73 LSD from a 325i/is

So this could be a reason to choose a 325is insteed of a 318is to start with.

This is the 318is I found. Look at the interior. Its neer a one women owner car. SO clean!

I still don't know what to do...

I used to have a 1.9turbo diesel jetta. I added an intercooler, increase the boost to 18-19 psi with a boost bleed and modified the fuel pump. It wasn't bad for a diesel!

dont let something as easy as a bolt on LSD make your mind up for what car you buy. Get whatever is to your liking and build that up.
