    "Schneller True RAM Air Intake System "

    Anyone try this it looks like a bunch of modified crap....looks like an elbow from a car with tcs...and a 3inch 45 and an e30 air box turned on end. Wondering if anyone has tried this thing... Ithink im gonna make my own kinda like this.

              RAM air is a joke. I read somewhere that it was a fraction of 1psi at 160mph !!!!!

                  Ram Air does work. But in most cases the air inlet is to low to grab that much air. And it is more like 1psi at 100mph. This set up here that was posted looks like the headlight should be removed to function like it should. It also beats taking in hot under hood air.

                    better than hot air, but from what i know turbulent air smacking into your filter isnt the best way to intake. you want something drawing air from a low pressure area where the air is more still. its hard to explain what i mean, but for example backwards hoodscoops like chevy cowl induction work better than a regular hoodscoop open to the front. its harder to get air that way in our cars though

                      I blocked off a large portion of that corner with a heat shield, and the temp inside that box after a 1 hour commute is much closer to outside temperature then it is to under hood temperature. I was really surprised how well it worked actually.

                      I think most of us would be wasting our time with ram air. Just give the filter cool air and call it a day. I still run a stock airbox on my track car.

                          You can get the $20 special at autozone if you don't give a shit about your engine, or you can get a high-end filter for up to $100 if you do.

                          My m50 has 220k miles and the swap cost me less then $200. Not only did it get the $20 special, it got the USED $20 special from my eta engine. It's probably 6 years old. Had I gone with a rebuilt s52, things may have worked out differently when it came time to choose the air filter...

                            you know...if you take your temp probe that hooks up to your OBC and shove it in your cone intake filter like I did you can see that the intake temp, while moving, never really gets more than 5 degrees higher than the ambient outside temp. I have no heatshield and haven't put one on. Once i get my act together and come up with one I'll have some data as to whether or not it actually matters.

                              Interesting. I wonder how good the response time of that thermometer is. Where my filter is, I can feel some serious heat on it without the shield. And I even have an electric fan on the front of the rad, so there's no fan blades to throw hot air on the filter.
