About 10 track days so far. With the 8 lb M20 flywheel I haven't noticed any issues, revs fall off fine when under load, it's just when in neutral that it "hangs" a bit. I too thought it was clutch related, but I noticed that after you reset the ECU, it goes away for a while until it "relearns".

Just a thought:

How is your throttle cable terminated at the throttle body? I use a (dont joke) small fishing sinker crimped onto the end of the cable. When I goose the throttle from the engine compartment at the throttle body, the cable/sinker binds...leaving the throttle cracked. This doesn't happen when I press the gas pedal, only when I manually goose the throttle body linkage.

Your cable may be binding at the crimp, leaving the the TB open. Check it out and make sure the Cable is slacking enough to fully close the TB when you come off the gas.

No shit? That's wild. It could very well be ECU controlled then, for emissions purposes. I just find it hard to believe that:

1. Not all m50's do this
or
2. Not everyone notices

It's not a huge deal, but for a track car it would be a bad thing.

im 99 percent sure my friends m52 e36 that does it has a siemens ecu, just throwin that out there.

I've run both a red and silver lablel 413. They are functionally identical. I get the same annoying "check engine" for Oxy sensor heat on both of them, but no throttle lift delay.

i dont have this problem AT ALL. my rpm drop instantly when im off the gas. in running '95 s50 w/ chromoly ltw m50 flywheel and s50 sachs clutch on getrag 260.

No, I'm using an eta transmission/clutch/flywheel (single mass and shaved). This is absolutely not caused by a heavy flywheel. It stays at the exact RPM then instantly drops. It's not a gradual thing. It is most definitely a controlled feature.

However, I went for a drive today and tried to get it to NOT do it, and I was successful. It seems like it does it under normal driving conditions mostly, when you start playing with blipping the throttle and stuff, it won't do it all the time. This sucks, my track car is an m20 and my daily driver is an m50, so if I get used to one I'll surely fuck up the other.

My M52 doesn't do this, but the same engine in a 1998 E36 328is I once had did. Drove me bonkers. A lighter flywheel helped, but I don't recall it completely resolving the problem. The clutch delay valve also pissed me off to no end - nice getting rid of that once I learned what it was! Are you running the ZF 5-speed?
