    Temperature sensors (oil & water)?

    Hey guys,

Just wondering what you're using for water temp sensors (gauge) and oil temp sensor ( e30 m3 dash).

I have an m52 with OBD1 conversion, the PO never used the correct sensor.
I back tracked the wiring. I confirmed that the sensor is wired through the chasis to the dash correctly, but I'm not recieving a reading. I'm guessing the wrong sensor is being used, and also where are you installing it?

Right now the water temp sensor is "splice" into hose 14:

Probably not the best place, as I believe there isn't always water flowing through it.
If there are threads with this info already listed I'd appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.

Also, Any insite into installing an oil temp sensor for the E30 m3 dash. Right now I have it pluged in the oil drain plug ( I know its not the most accurate, but it should be better than nothing). But I'm still not getting a reading... just a sweep to max at startup.

    Thanks guys,
    -Pieter

According to RealOEM E30 M3 and 325is use different temperature sensors (gauge). I'm guessing if I use the correct m3 sensor corresponding to the dash I should be alright.

I'd still like to hear som confirmation on what color sensor you're using. (2 or 1 plug)

    thanks

im in the process of putting an s52 in my 88 m3, and from what ive been told, you use the oil temp sensor off an s14. for me it fit right where the old sensor was, in the head. I havent confirmed this works, and our motors are exactly the same. but this might help you out.

Has anyone ever converted an e30 cluster to work with an e36 sender?

What, exactly, is the difference between the e30 and e36 sender? Is it just a different internal resistance?

Sorry, I'll be sure to remeber that ;).

Where is the Temp sender usually placed on an OBD1 swapped M52?
            Thanks,

Anyone know why the Oil temp sender / gauge aren't workin? I've got the E30 M3 sensor in the drain plug, and an e30 m3 dash. The Gauge pegs out at start up and then sits at the lowest reading.

              Thanks,
              -Pieter
