Question about running the zf tranny...

If I run the zf tranny, is it a must to use the stock e30 shifter carrier/linkage/shifter? Could I use my e36 zf shift carrier/linkage/shifter?

As long as its not an early style plate shifter, those are your only 2 options (excluding getting an aftermarket SSK)

My setup uses the E30 carrier, M3 selector rod and some Z3 lever that I bent the living shit out of to get the angles right. It has a pretty short throw though... :-)

I see. The part bolted to the chassis. Ha. Anyways, I guess I'm going to use all my e36 parts then but leave the stock carrier mount.

bringing this thread back from the dead: Which e36 selector, carrier, and lever do you use? 328/325/318?

And which linkage mount do you use? early model/ late model? 325/318?

I'm using all 328i parts on mine except for the linkage mount which is the stock 318is mount. Works fine but the shifter sits to the right of center on my car.

I used the e36 328is shifter arm, e36 328is selector rod, and e30 325is linkage mount. I bent the mount slightly so that the shifter sits directly in the middle. I just ordered a z3 short shifter and zhp knob, will report back with how awesome the setup is

im using the entire E36 shifter setup except the rear body mount is E30.

Got everything installed and its perfect! the shifter sits directly in the middle and the z3/zhp combo is great; very precise (with new bushings and mounts), as well as very smooth. Definitely recommend it, FCP Euro has a z3 shifter kit for $150
