    bell housing

I don't know what else to tell you. This is the ONLY detachable bellhousing that bolts directly to the m20 block and allows you to use the Getrag 265. Extremely rare. You are welcome to return it if it does not function as I state.

m3 guys dont use their tranny's because s14 bell housings are different than m20. m20 bell housings will fit all m50/s52 etc, but are rare, so m3 guys opt for e36 tranny's

i'm gonna bump this up. there is a local m20 with a 265 (with the detachable bell housing) with 60,000 miles on it. it's really tempting as i need a tranny for my m52 turbo and i really want overdrive. i assume the getrag 265 will have the same tilting issues as a 260... which sucks. but i did some research and the general consensus is that the 265 is a good deal stronger than the 260...

three things: 1981 and 1982 e28's have bellhousings that fit on a getrag 265. same part number for the manual and automatic transmission. that means they're much easier to find than i thought they were. second thing. late model e30's and e30m3's use the same shift linkage. third thing. the m3 crossmember for the 265 is $22 on pelicanparts.com! but... the only way i see using that as an option is by tilting your engine.

i'm not sure what tranny came with my euro 3.0L motor, but it doesn't look like it has the same bolt pattern.

the only way to find out if this bell housing fits is to take the motor off the stand and try it out, but that will be for a while

So Eric, did you buy that M20 265 bellhousing or not? The auction is no good anymore, and I was wondering how much they go for (I saw one on mye28 going for quite a bit.)

there are plenty of e28's at the scrap yards around here, and now that i know the automatics use the exact same bellhousing, i dont think they'll be very hard to find...

I don't think they do, though. I did the part number cross reference for the bell housing and it only comes up fo up to 9/82 528e manual. It shows the auto, but if you click on it it takes you to the diagram where no part number is listed. It wouldn't have the same bell housing as an auto anyway, as the auto bellhousings are a bit larger and have no need for a slave cylinder mounting spot.

bump again. does anyone have any idea if i'll be able to use a stock e30 m3 crossmember with a getrag 265 and my m52? or will i have to make a custom one, like with a 260 transmission?

The 265 does in fact tilt exactly like the getrag 260... So it'll work fine with a custom tranny support and modified shift linkage.

For my m50tu swap, I'm using a getrag 240 transmission

For my m52 turbo swap, I'm using a ZF tranny

                              Hi Fellas,
Does anyone have a source on one of these bell housings? I have a CR box I want to put behind an S52.
                              Thanks
