    Serpentine belt/power steering

I was researching some serpentine stuff and came across these two pics. Makes it look like there are TWO versions of belt routing... with and without the auxilliary roller.

Anybody ever seen the version without? Why is that aux roller necessary?

Also, can the power steering pump be bypassed with a shorter serpentine. Any details would be appreciated.

On my swap, I built a pulley where the PS pump sits. Might have been able to get away with not having it in there. All you have to is measure the distance (I did it with a string) and go down to the local autoparts store and tell them the length you need.

I've got a similar question, except involving the removal of the PS pump and AC compressor.

My s52 has no extra tensioner between the alternator and water pump. I could snap a picture for you when i put the belts on.

That aux pulley is for better belt wrap around the alternator pulley.

                  ^^What info do you need?

I have no power steering and no idler pulley. The Mini S belt fit's perfectly for my application. Belt tension is great and the setup works flawlessly. It's a very clean and simple setup.

The tensioners on these engines is magic compared to the old style of tightening the alternator belt with the adjustable nut on most cars. So easy.
