Depending on the application and the hp expectation they aren't. An s50/2 is already plenty for an e30, let alone boost, a decent supercharger with say 2.73 gears would be a lot of fun.

P.S Bender did you take your car to the track since you finished the Vette rear end? I'm really curious to see your times!

i tried to take my car to the track, but when i got there (2 hours) they decided it was rained out :(

and then the following couple of weeks were bad weather, etc.. so i gotta wait until spring now.

oh well, but there will be some more tricks up my sleeve by then.

i'm hoping to max out my current setup HP wise.

the tuner motorsports option isn't a bad idea. that with some good head work done should yeild the same as a S50 if not a bit better.

s50 cams can be bought for $300 or less all day on bfc. Then you can buy a TRM chip, and it'll be significantly cheaper then $899.

                    Daily driver: m50 or s5x

                    Toy: turbo whatever you have.

It's also now in the forum rules that if you have no money you cannot ask about "s50" "s52" or "turbo" so since you are not breaking these rules I want to see some progress on that m50 turbo, 2 bar FTMFW.

With respect for your absolutely awesome E30, I have to disagree. With a supercharger you can get (basically instant) off-idle boost. The result will be MUCH improved low-RPM torque, and a more NA-like rev band. None of the BMW engines make decent power until 4000RPM, so this would be great. You can't get the power of a turbo to the ground in an E30 anyway. Every single YouTube video of a turbo E30 (24V or not) is always the same: Honda Civic power until ~3500RPM, then crazy wheelspin after. :weak:

That said, I still voted turbo. Best bang for the buck, and you can boost the shit out of an M50.

                          TRM turbo

I have a S52 turbo in my E36M3 with low boost its fast...;)

An M50 with a properly sized turbo, not a GT35r. Will be unbelievable fast you will be shocked at how it drives... The biggest mistake I have seen over the years with guys turboing BMW's is they stick too large a turbo on the car. If its a street car daily driver you want a nice lnear responding turbo.

My M3 turbo has almost zero lag and it pulls like a train. the torque curve is nice and flat al lthe way to redline.

110% do a TRM tune on it... I am getting a TRM tune once I put the engine back in mine... Since I bought the S50 powered car I am selling the turbo M3

With a TRM kit expect an easy 300-350whp depending on boost... in 2900lb car you will be moving.. probablly need to put the 2.79 ETA gear in it so the tires get some semblence of traction LOL!!!!

Judging from your question, money is a big issue.
Obviously a turbo will give you a large amount of power.
Will the s50 get you even near the same, no.

It's either allot of power <--> A small bump in power.
..and for around the same price. Pound
for pound, turbo is the only way.

                            If you have $, then S52+turbo. :)

This is just IMO. A no brainer.

s62 makes nice power in the lower rpms, and simply goes crazy with the dual vanos higher up in the powerband!
