    s52 rebuild cost... yikes!!!

Had no compression in cylinder 5 when I bought the motor (was sold to me as "perfectly good", but thats a whole 'nother story.) Since no compression on 5, and the donor vehicle was involved in a rollover, I figured bottom end should be looked at and rehoned at the very minimum. (some scoring present on 2 cylinders also).

Was just sourcing parts so I can have this sucker put back together and damn. It starts to add up. Here's the list...

    Parts Total

    $816.53

Grand Total = 816.53 + main bolts (haven't sourced yet) + c-clips that hold the wrist pins (also haven't sourced)

All of this is through Arizona Autohaus. RealOEM has the rod bolts listed for $4.xx if I'm not mistaken, so I'm going to check dealer tomorrow on everything.

Does anybody know of a cheaper source with same OEM quality brands? (or have a hookup for a fellow r3v'r :D)

Thought I'd ask before I pull the trigger. Help a brother out ;)

That's not too bad actually... check the price on the oil pumps (m5x/s5x or m30, yikes)

I had the M30's top end rebuilt and all the gaskets replaced. I didn't do anything with the lower end (other then the gaskets) because then you really get into serious money. All in all I think I spent around 600-700 on it but it was definately worth it. Also when trying to sell it the buyer knows you didn't cut any corners.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my whole s52, including the oil pump. I was able to get everything from pelicanparts.com, including the c-clips for the con-rods. You don't have to replace the main bolts. I even replaced all the timing gears, the oil pump gear and don't forget both tensioners. I don't know how many miles you had on there, but mine had 144k.

Also, think about replacing all the little bolts (M6 or so) that hold the tensioners on. Also the two little torx screws that attach the front of the head to the top of the timing chain cover. I've heard horror stories of those snapping off.

Do yourself a favor and get the special timing tools. Especially the camshaft holding tool. You can't just make the square ends on the cams sit flat. They are not that way when you use the holding tool. You'll see what I mean when you do it.

I haven't had time to update it lately, but check it out:

One last thing-make sure you REALLY need to bore things out before you do it. I didn't have to. I just had the shop clean them up. My valve guides and springs where also good, so I left them alone. I am going for a good DD, not a track rat.

800 isn't bad at all. While your there though, might as well bore it .030 to clean it all out and throw some pistons in. Seriously would suck to know that you didn't just go balls out and actually rebuild it while your there. Think those are bad, build up a FE ford motor. Was $2500 just for a stock rebuild on my dad's 390. That didn't include the labor to actually assemble the motor as we refuse to let anyone touch the final assembly.

x2 on that, blunts rates are quite competitive.

that's pretty good pricing actually. try rebuilding an s38. it was 4k just to rebuild the head on my m5, and that was reusing 12 of the valves that were still good. timing components on the s38 are crazy expensive.
if you want another price, email blunt. he can get any oe part.

You think 800$ for a full teardown is expensive?:roll:

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

Extra money isn't worth the gain IMO. Block's already been honed anyway, too late.

Yes, for just some bearings, bolts, and gaskets. Especially since it's not really a FULL teardown, more like a half teardown since it's only bottom end and the figure is parts only - labor is extra obviously.

It's not an m3 engine, it's a stroked 328 whether we like it or not.

Lol! Add up parts to build a forced induction motor and then lets talk. That $800 to have a fresh motor thatll be exactly what you want is not a whole lot of money.

That said, anybody know where to get an OE oil pump the cheapest?

Good luck with the build dude and youll sure be happy and your $800 will be an after thought when your spanking cars that cost a lot more than yours did.
