No comp on cylinder 1... M50

    UPDATE!!!!
Heres some photos of the problem..

ok well. I dont know where to start or how to explain.
I work out of town through the week and the wife decied she wanted to drive the car to work and to do some stuff. No big deal.
She drives good and doesnt piss around. So I feel safe letting her drive.
She called me up and said that the car was acting funny after she came out of the store.
So I asked her what it was doing. She said when she would down shift or let off the gas to slow down it would backfire and she said when just driving down the road it sounds like a subaru.

So I get home around 9:30 and decide to take the car for a ride.

When I down shift or I let off the gas it back fires.
If Im just cruzing through town it sounds like it is a subaru with with an aftermarket exhaust.

So I get it back to the garage and I do a comp test.
    cylinder 1 doesnt read anything
cylinder 2 is right around 105-110
cylinder 3 is the same as 2
cylinder 4 is the same as 2 and 3
cylinder 5 is the same as 2, 3 and 4.
cylinder 6 is right around 100

I figure well great, something is fucked up.
So I do a leakdown on cylinder number 1.
I dont hear any air coming from the exhaust. I dont hear any air coming from the intake.
So I figure the ring is fucked up. So I squirt some oil in the cylinder and hook up the comp test and still nothing.

I dont have any coolant leaking into the oil, No foam and no milkyness.
Sooo. Any one have any ideas??

BTW the Motor is a M50 with M52 cam trays and lifters and S52 cams. TMS chip and 540 maf. Im running 92 oct.

money shifted. ask me how i know....

sounds like you have a whole row of bent valves...probably exhaust. when i money shifted (4th->3rd instead of 5th), i floated the valves on over-rev and since the exhaust valves are closer to the pistons, all 12 of them got bent. when i did a comp test, i got like 30-130-160-160-130-130 or something like that. after getting the head rebuilt i comped it again, and it was about 200 across all 6, for comparrison.

I thought she might have did that and not said anything because she knows how Iam about letting people drive my car.
Im anal about it. Maybe she will say something when I tell her whats wrong and how much its going to cost to fix.

But I would have thought with the leak down test that I would have heard the air coming out of the exhaust. I was putting about 200 psi through that cylinder.

No disrespect to her, but if it was her fault and you started going on about the cost of the fix, she would probably keep quiet haha. That's what my cheap ass would do.

That really sucks if its a bent valve after all that work. But it does sounds like a bent valve.

Yeah, Well we will see what the comps are tomorrow when the motor is cold. See what happens then.
If I have to rip it out and rebuild the head Im going to do the bottom end at the same time.

Sounds like your gonna need to be doing this with her for a time. I'd just hang my head in shame once in the presence of my SO if she did that. Then I wouldn't hold it over her head ever again, but use it silently to get a vortech supercharger.

That's how my first M90 was when I bought it... the head was totally fucked.

                    s52 time!!!

In all honesty shitty situation. But on the bright side you might as well pick up a blown s52 if you're going to rebuild the m50. It will cost you the same to rebuild, and you already have all your obd1 stuff and you'll have an extra set of cams. Or a set of cams if you just pick up an s52 block.

Well its confirmed its a blown head gasket. We put some more pressure into the number 1 cylinder and took off the rad cap and it was bubbling.
Sooo. Now Im weighing my options. Part out the M50 and build a stroked M20 like I had in my 4 door. or rebuild the m50 and add some more goodies.

What should I do though?? hi comp stroker or low comp supercharged?

                          I would rather stay NA

Stroker 2.9? STU on here built his to a 2.9 I think and makes more then my s52 does.
