M50 Stroker, What do you suggest?

Ok well I melted the side of the piston out on my M50.
Im looking at building a stroker. This motor will not see a turbo or a SC ever. So the higher the comp the better correct??

Anyways so far this is the plan.

    M50 block
    S52 crank
    M54B30 rods and pistons.

This will complete my bottom end. other then the normal, line bore, decking and a light hone on the cylinder walls.

    The head will get.
    Port & Polish
    Valve job
And Im thinking of picking up a set of sunbelt cams. I was happy with the S52 cams. But a little bigger is always better.

I have VEMs 3.3 that will be controling whats going on with the motor.

Im also working on a set of ITB's as well.
So if anyone can think of something better let me know.

thats going to be a kick ass set up.

i almost went this route but m52 stuff popped up and it was a bit easier on the wallet at the time.

Thats what Im wishin for. High comp monster.
Im just worried about valve to piston clearance. I figure once the block gets decked and the head gets surfaced Im going to have to run a MLS head gasket.
I may just stick with the S52 cams in the end.

Why worry about P/V clearance when the S52 crank is the exact same as the M54 crank. What you need to do is get a set of custom pistons with a CR of 11.5-12.0:1.

we had an E36 M3 in the shop that blew the headgasket...it had shrick cams, OBD1 intake manifold, etc etc, so when we put it back together, we got really scared when we started it up cuse the lifters hadnt bled down, and the valvetrain was clackin like crazy. Never hurt the engine tho.

We upped his compression to 11.5:1...pretty crazy engine. Pauter Rods, JE pistons, etc etc. Made like 330whp or something like that

who do you suggest I get these through??

I worry about P/V clearance because when they deck the block and head its going to bring the P/V closer together.
So depending on the cams I run will be a little sketchy.

There are a few manufacturers who actually increase the valve pocket volumes when they make their pistons. I believe Wiseco is one of the companies that does this. That or go through EvoSport and get their pistons. Those suckers have the LARGEST valve pockets that you can get. That and they offer them in 11.5 - 13:1 CR's. The reason they have such large valve pockets is due to the fact that they offer some ridiculous cams. I believe they are 290/290 with, I believe, 11-12mm of lift.

ok fellas, I got my M54B30 rods and pistons in the mail today.
The only thing that I seen different between the 2 is that the M54B30 rods are 135mm and the M50 vanos rods are 140mm.
The pistons on the M54B30 dont have a deep cut into the top of the piston like the M50 vanos pistons do for the valves. So in the end I think It would be better to just use the M54B30 rods and use the M50 vanos pistons?.?.?

Wouldnt it be better to use the M54B30 or the S52 crank and use the M50 vanos rods and pistons or will this put the dome on the piston to far out of the block?

Anyone have any input on this??

The M54B30 and the S52 crank are exactly the same. So really it doesnt matter what one you use.
Im just asking if it would be better to use the M50 vanos rods and pistons over the M54 rods and pistons or will the top of the piston stick out of the block to much with the 140mm rods.

OHH fuck it. Im going to put one in and see what happens.

Use the pistons that go with the rods. Off the top of my head, I would say that the M50TU wrist pin is going to be about 5mm further away from the piston crown than that of the M54 piston.

To the OP: Did you ever get your stroker conversion done?

What did you use for software?
