survey: Who is runnig a 24v swap with obd2?

In reading the postings here, it is evident that obd2 is starting to pop up more often in 24v swaps. there are some really good threads with lots of great info to the point that it seems easier if you have most of the car as a donor. I would like to start a roll call for those that are presently running obd2 or at least have started collecting parts and plan to do so in the near future. seems like a good idea since it will help increase support to those that use this forum.

Ill lead it off. Many of you have seen my posts, but for those of you that have not, i have a 91 m42 vert. my donor car is a wrecked 2000 M z3 roadster (47,000 miles) that i picked up stupid cheap. as of this date, i have both engines out of the cars. i have started working on my wiring harness. btw... etxxz's thread labeled "wiring kamasutra" has been very helpful.

    so....post them up!

Mine is also ODB2, I had the full parts from the M coupe donor.
S52. I am also running the EWS since I have the parts. It sounds like our donor cars are similiar. Mine was a 98 M Z3 with just under 50k on the engine. Engine, trans, parts all in great condition.

You will love the E30 when you get done. I was debating on the ODB1 for the HP gain, but so far, I am extremely happy with the outcome.

You can still run the OBDI mani with the OBDII setup. The real downside to OBDII is chip vs software and depending on where you live, smog laws.

If you mean OBD1 has a disadvantage, then you're right. The OBD2 dme is more advanced, and more gains can be seen from tuning.

No i was just referring to sending a DME off and having something non sellable vs getting a chip in the mail. I wasnt hinting at gains from either side.

I plan on running obd2. Currently have both motors out of the car (and the m20 now in my daily which isn't running properly yet), s52 is getting machine work done. Hoping to complete by end of march.

Interesting thread, I have an entire parts car that the s52 is coming from (a 99 M3 ), but I planned on scrappin the wiring/DME, and going all obd1. Do you guys really think its more benificial to leave it obd2? I would imagine it would be alot easier and I have everything I need already.

                    Hmmm...

It seems the general consesus used to be that obd1 gave you more power and that it is easier to tune.

Now, the consensus seems to be that you don't need to convert to obd1 for the power (just swap the intake mani), and that obd2 is more readily tunable these days.

You sure its the general consensus? Ive been doin alot of research and you almost convinved me to stay obd2, but there is definatly more power to be had going obd1. I spoke with a few friends here in town(winston-salem) whom know there shit. Ask one of the Mchenry boys what they think...

The only power gained from the obd1 swap is the intake mani. You can swap the intake mani without converting to obd1.

The tuning options for obd I are still better and easier to use. At least for awhile longer.
