I guess we have gotten off topic here but along these lines....if one were to swap only the intake manifold but run the obd2 system, can i still run the stock ecu tune? would that require buying a custom tune from turner or one of those guys?

As I understand it you can run the OBD1 mani on OBD2 software and not have to get a tune. But a much greater hp gain and mid range tq will come if a chip is tuned for the OBD2. Here is a link explaining more about the swap http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=544874

Looks like quite a small number of people have done the OBD2 swap which is a shame. I'm looking to chuck the M42 and swap in an M52 and was hoping I didn't need to to the trouble of changing all the sensors and getting a DME and harness out of an OBD2 car.

Theres a huge advantage for doing M52s outside the USA as we get the alloy block motors which are around 50lb lighter than the iron block motors! :)

Ive got a cust. running OBD2 S52 (TRM tuning).

For the most part theres no power differences between the two, the OBD2 Ecu is just "Smarter"

was planning on staying OBD2 with OBD1 intake mani swap, using everything from my 97 M3 s52 donor car. Was excited about staying OBD2. But unfortunatly my ECU was recently stolen.

              What do you all recommend....?

Getting a replacement ECU with EWS/O2 Sensors/Ignition delete and staying OBD2
              or.....

Just bite the bullet and convert to OBD1.

I am planning on running a Gt35 turbo, so I've been talking to others about the tuning aspect of OBD2 v. OBD1. And from the info gathered, it seems like the TRM chip tune is a nice/easy way to go with OBD1.

              Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Have Matt at TRM delete the ews. Since your going turbo thats right up their ally as well. Sounds like its a great time to make a new friend.

Anyone know if the Treehouse wiring adapter can be used to cover most of the obd2 stuff? Ive seen the question asked a bunch, but never addressed... I am looking to run a m52 from a 98 328is. Not much info on the obd2 swap around the swap thread and the info is soo damn scatteered.

Actually we aren't doing turbo OBD2 stuff yet. We're still working out the kinks from the prototypes.

OBD1 blow-through is still the way to go for an e30/M50 turbo. (and get the top-mount manifold from Blunt!)

Oh don't get me wrong, OBD1 turbo stuff is 90% of what we do. We are just not ready to do OBD2 turbo stuff yet.
