    adapter check? please

I am finding some differences in my c101 plug, problem is the harness side of the plug I bought because I sold my harness with my m20. Stupid I know!! So I had to source one. The plug I have is supposed to be from a 89 325is not sure if it was manual or an auto. So on the story goes...

I am sitting here with said sourced c101 plug carefully going through identifying each wire and its color. I have found a few snags along the way. Here is the color and corresponding pin #. I highlighted the only color differences in this plug compared to my spreadsheet I post below.

    1 -blue
    2-green/yellow
    3-x
    4-brown/violet
    5-green/brown
    6-green/white
7-green There are two 2 wires in the same pin why? where does the other smaller one go?
    8-white/black = dme cont/ idle cont right?
    9-black
    10-blue
    11-white/green
    12-gray
    13-green/violet
    14-black/white
    15-black/green
    16-white/green = diagnostic plug right?
    17-x
    18-black/yellow
    19-x
    20 -x

Here is the chart I have configured for my 89 325is using a 95 e34 wiring harness both of which I found here on R3v in bits and pieces I put them together to help sort the mess . Click on thumbnail below to enlarge. How does this diagram look? Will it be successful?

I think I have it figured out for the most part and I am prob making this harder than what it looks. I just want to be sure because its better to check with you experts rather than torching the poor e30.

7-green There are two 2 wires in the same pin why? where does the other smaller one go?

As I recall, the two greens end up powering the fuel injectors and ECU. I don't think they split within the adapter, they remain doubled-up, probably for extra current carrying capacity.

I'll check when I get home.

OK I just checked the X20 plug on the harness (wiring/engine side). Here is the pin and corresponding color. I highlighted the only color differences in this plug compared to my spreadsheet I post above.

      1 -white/blue

      2-blue/yellow
      3-red/white
      4-black/blue
      5-black/gray
      6-violet/gray
      7-green (small)
      8-gray
      9-x
      10-brown/black
      11-brown/yellow
      12-brown/violet
      13-green/violet
      14-black/white
      15-black/green
      16-white/yellow
      17-white/violet
      18-black/yellow
      19-white/green
      20-black
      21-green (Large)
      22-green/white
      23-brown/gray
      24-white/black
      25- blue

I know there were color changes between years. Assume each harness was on a identical motor (94 325i vanos engine/ 95 525i harness in my case) about the pins ? As far as function goes, did it stay the same or close atleast?

Can anyone confirm my posted spreadsheet? Is the function accurate for each pin? The colors are easy to figure out once I know that part is correct. It just simply comes down to color changes or false info on my spreadsheet regarding color.

      Thanks

OK my " supposed to be 89" e30 c101 plug (the one I am making the adapter from) does have the extra small green wire but my 94 e34 x20 plug (again adapter portion) doesn't have the smaller green wire. However the 95 e34 main harness does have the wire.

So here are my options which one is best?

        1. Tie the small green wire from the c101 into the larger green wire on the x20?
        2. Forget the adapter and cut the x20 plugs from the e34 harness and wire the c101 plug directly to the e34 main harness? which would also clean things up a bit in the engine bay.
        3. Give the small green wire on both sides of the adapter its own pin location since there are a few free?

I know this is all a bit confusing since I have sourced plugs from different years trust me its a pita as far as colors go!! I have been checking everything 11 billion times before doing anything. Here is a simple example of how this adapter will be and could be.

        Dme--> 95 main harness x20 --> 94 x20 plug --> "supposed 89" c101-->89 c101--> fuse panel.

        Or my favorite is..

Dme --> 95 main harness/c101 wired in place of the x20--> 89 c101--> fuse panel.
