depends on your gearing, but i have had my stock 325is up to 140. since i have the same gearing with the s50, i would say 130 is cake.

You'd have to account for that. Let me crunch some numbers and I'll be back...

Ok, assuming you're using the ZF tranny (the only one worth using really) you have to account for the 1:1 5th gear. A 3.73 Final Drive ratio will be very quick off the line but have you hitting 130mph at 6900 RPM with a 215/45/16 tire. A 3.25 rear end would have you hitting your peak speed at just over 6k and a 2.93 lowers that again to around 5500.

I am still up in the air about the trans. at this time but I would say the 2.93 is the way to go either way. With either setup thec ar will still wind up pretty quick but give me the legs needed to sustain around 130mph. I may also just go and run flat out . Does anyone know if there is a standing land speed record for an E30 with a NA 6 cylinder engine?

A 2.93 with a getrag has you hitting 130 around 4400 rpm. I really don't think that will have enough grunt to overcome the mediocre aerodynamics of the E30 enough to get to 130 by the end of the mile.

Hell, a 3.25 with the G260 is actually pretty nice. EASILY hit 130. 1st winds out to about 35-40. I threw one in my car a while back to see how it would be. Then I changed it out to a 4.10. Now I'm going to a 3.73. Might change it after the 3.73, depending on how I like it.

Im m30b34 powered not s5x powered but with a 2.93 i can do 115 in third gear and still have tons of room to climb. I wouldn't say it took very long to get there either, def not a mile, and i understand that you are dealing with a traction issue, but i dont thik this will be a huge feat to accomplish. I vote go something along the lines of a 3.25 so you have the push but you also have the space!

Even my m10 can hit 130 given enough room, but the question here was "In a standing 1 MILE"... I would love to see you do it :)

This thread reminds me of the top gear episode when they take the new c6, and two other cars to the flat salts to do just that, go as fast as they can in 1 mile... IIRC they were in the 140+ mph range.

yea, just make sure you have some traction, stock m42 can do 130 on a good day.

                    no worries with a s50.

You have no concept of an S50 E30. Please go back to your mustang forum and stop posting rubbish here.

You know nothing about these motors or swaping them. I am surprised you even know what an m42 is.

You should beable to get 130. What size tires will you be running?

I have gone 155mph according to the E30 speedo. A ZF tranny with a 2.93 rear end was used.

If you want to go any faster you will either need to improve aero or use a taller ratio with more power.

Fidhle, although most of the times he is an ass, is quite right in this thread. Everyone keeps posting how their car can run this and their car can run that...

Please read the situation where he's running the 130 mph in. Its on salt grounds and WITHIN a single mile where traction is obviously a bigger issue than regular grounds. Any car with a given amount of area and unlimited time can go 130. This is totally different from what he is trying to accomplish in this thread.

I say 3.25 lsd with a ZF should be enough grunt to get you to 130 within a mile. I personally would go with the 2.93lsd. Longer gears, and better usage of the power band.
