Coolant hoses help?

Ok so im ordering the last bits and bobs i need to get the swap started. I have looked in ALOT of places and i see mention of just a spider hose and some mention of all the e36 hoses. I just wanted to verify before i buy it. Do i need basicly ALL the hoses here?

Oh by the way i have an 89 325is, keeping the original radiator, putting in an OBDI converted m52. Any help is appreciated!

well, you are using the late style radiator, i believe. take a look at the hose outlets on your radiator to be sure they match in the same area. i have a late model radiator in my ix. off the top of my head, i am thinking that the openings are in different areas than the e34 or e36. whatever you buy, you will likely have to shorten the main hoses a bit. the hose outlets from the water pump housing on my s52 are closer the the radiator than the m20. the rest of the hoses are more engine specific rather than body specific. other than possibly trimming the upper hose that goes into the firewall, i think it looks pretty good

I haven't had an m52 but I thought they had metal spider hoses and you needed to convert the outlet to use it.

For the radiator hoses you can use e30 or e36 they're very close to being identical.

Does your m52 not have the metal spiderhose on it already? If you want to switch over to the rubber spiderhose you will need the adapter that turner sells. You need the upper and lower e36 radiator hoses as well.

The only thing I haven't figurd out yet is the hose to the coolant overflow tank. I think i'm just going to have to go to the auto supply store and dig something up.

I have used e30 hoses with no problem whatsoever. If your e30 hoses are old and crappy then I would replace with e36, but if they're good then re-use them.

I don't recall exactly. I think I just used the e30 line that comes off the tank and spliced it into the spider hose. I remember that I needed to re-route it slightly near the tank but I don't recall why.

If you don't run the throttle body heater you can forget about hoses 14 and 15. But then you have to cap the return that is on the spider hose that goes to the throttle body.

You need the spider hose #6 and the hose from the flange on the rear of the head to the heater core you may have to find a hose to cut to fit the length (I haven't gotten to that point with my swap)

Im not sure on the heater hoses for the rad but from what I have heard you can trim the hose and make it work.

Does hose #5 go to the top outlet on the e30 chassis, or the bottom? Obviously, the rear end of the spider hose goes to the opposite. Just need to be sure which is which. Not something I want to do twice :)

After more searching, looks like back of cylinder head goes to bottom heater flange on firewall - and spider hose goes to top flange on firewall.

The spider hose is the main drain hose for all the components in the coolant circuit except the radiator.
This is typical for BMW inline engines.
