    BMW E30 M52 Swap + E38 Sump- Oil level sensor WIRING Question

    Hi all,

    I found something on this forum about the wiring for an E34 oil level sensor, but don't know if this would be the same for an E38 one (PN: 12611433510). See below:

    This diagram, shows that the E34 oil pan sensor, in an M50 E30 swap goes like this:

    Pin 1 - Low (this is switched, so it completes the circuit when the oil level is low and turns on the check light)
    Pin 2 - High
    Pin 3 - GND (tie this in with the rest of the grounds)

    So for my car, my High wire in the C101 was Pin 2 (blue white) and the Low wire was Pin 10 (blue violet).

    So wire Pin 1 -> Pin 2
    Pin 2 -> Pin 10
    Pin 3 -> a ground wire somewhere.
    The only info I found on the internet about the E38 wiring is something on bimmerforum but there is no source given. There they do say the following:

    The pinout for the level sensor is:
    Pin 1: Power from fuse 22 (switched with ignition position 2), green with white stripe.
    Pin 2: Ground, brown.
    Pin 3: Signal to DDE, grey with brown stripe.

    If this really is true, it looks like I can't wire my E38 oil level sensor up to the C101 connector...

    Anyone who could help me on this?

    pin1 is the low level
    pin 2 i ground
    pin 3 is high level try wiring them one way then the other , leaving pin 2 to ground.

      I have 3 separate wires from the oil level sensor to the C101 connector. Where do you have these information from and why does it differ from the E34 oil level sensor?

        Only 2 go to c101. The middle one (brown ) goes to ground.

          #1 of sensor goes to c101 (#10=blue)
          #2 goes to ground
          #3 of sensor goes to c101 (#2=green/yellow)
