M52 e34 oil pan windage tray compatibility

Here for some verification because I know it’s happened to others and I’d rather avoid the headache now.

i have an e34 oil pan with windage tray built in and I’m swapping a m52b28 into my e30. The e34 oil pan with built in windage trays will work with the m52 swap without the crank hitting right? Or do I have to cut out that windage tray and use the one that came with the m52?

ive read that the built in e34 windage tray works better than the m52 one?

Swapping pans and sumps today and don’t wanna have to take it apart again.

Unbolt the windage tray from the block. Then the e34 pan fits just fine!

Personally I would do the opposite, I would remove the windage tray built into your pan and continue using the stock windage tray designed for the M52. When I did my S50 swap, and my M50 swap in my other e30, I used the stock tray designed for the engine and removed the e34 tray built into the pan. Hope this helps.

Didn't know that was an option.. do you think that could cause excessive crank case turbulence? My motor loves to push oil out of the valve cover vent.

I'm pretty sure there are different windage trays for different cranks, I remember a thread where someone had "rod knock" that ended up being like an s52 with a late m50 bolt on windage tray that it was smacking into.
While you probably won't notice a huge difference, I'd drill off the one in the pan and run the one that came on the block if you have the option.

Yah I saw that. Mine doesn't hit. I'm curious if it's the cause of my oil consumption through the crank case vent...
